Great friends...

I have the greatest friends in the whole wide world. I love them. Just thought I'd let you know.
Here's my first place prize winning layout about my iron. Technique Tuesday stamps for the "steam" coming out of the iron. My Minds Eye papers and blue rick rack around the journaling. I also sewed some lace along the edge of the striped block. Black stazon for the ink. And there you have it. A gorgeous lo about a silly thing like an iron.
We have MAJOR winds here that come of the mountains and the result is a loss of shingles from the west side of our roof. Tessa found a half one on the ground today and asked me what it was. I told her that it was a piece of the roof and she quite frankly told me ..."Mom, if the house is losing pieces then we need a new house!" I told her, "No, we just need a new roof." She was put out that we can't get a new house right now but I think she'll recover, hopefully soon.

The State Fair Verdict

I received I think four second place ribbons on the things I submitted to the fair. One first place and one third I think. I'm not too sure because of the whirlwind with three children. WE had a great time but it WAS exhausting. I haven't taken pictures of the things I submitted, time crunch but I will after the 24th when I get them back. WHAT a day! I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite pictures since I haven't worked on anything lately...well, that's finished.
Have a super day.

The good, the bad and the FLAMIN' of our convention trip

FLAMIN' you say and I say to you, yes flaming! We were on our way to Arizona and almost to Holbrook when the cruise control starts to freak out and we start speeding up and lose the brakes. We were up to 95 mph before we thought to put it into neutral and let it coast to a stop (still no brakes). We saw the wisps of smoke coming up from the console area between the front seats and smelled an acrid smell. The five of us sprang into action and got EVERYTHING out of the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. Two fire extinguishers later and still the fire burned on. Such a horrible thing to watch...it was truly surreal. I couldn't take pictures of the actual incident because my camera bag was too near the blazing inferno so all I got was this pic of the aftermath, taken by a stunned police officer who thought we were all crazy. Please see my awesome friends' notable blogs about the same trip: Lacey Jenn and when poor Michelle gets around to it.
So in the end it all worked out in a way. My mom came from Flagstaff and picked us up at the Petrified National Forest Visitor's Center an hour and a half away were we relinquished our refugee status for a time. Thanks mama! It was an illegal trip but we made it. I hope Michelle's lap doesn't have a permanent indent of my butt on it. We were able to get a rental car in Flag and drive down to Phoenix, check into our hotel and fall asleep by two am. In all honesty it was probably one of the worst days of my life but I was surrounded by the BEST of friends. My friend, Michelle, lost her Durango that day but we all have memories from this trip that will last a lifetime. I love you girls...you're bringin' sexy back (inside joke from trip). I don't think I've laughed that hard in ages.
Things that were kinda funny. Educating Jenn and Sarah on the ins and outs of pee bottles. Hearing comments like, "I want to see one, I want to see the sunlight glinting off the amber gold liquid." Jenn could hardly believe we were telling her the truth and she squealed, "I think I saw one, I did, I saw my very first pee bottle."
We were in the Petrified National forest when our car was petrified.
There was a shirt in the visitors center that said "Rt 66, WHAT A TRIP". I think that's an understatement.
At the airport while waiting for our ride home a when a fireman heard our story he made us all laugh by saying, "Oh, you guys were in a carbeque." Nuts I tell you, totally crazy.
Me and Lacey eating donuts at midnight.
Getting a "wow" out of the business men at the hotel continental breakfast. Finding a "special tool" at the convention, pictures to come later.
Sarah's story about the Dancing Eagle Casino/Dirty bird.
Jenn's ability to win free stuff.
My ability to talk myself into free stuff, although not trying.
Hearing the teacher of the basic grey class say you CAN'T use busy paper as your bg, you CAN'T sand in the air and other such nonsense...I CAN DO whatever the heck I want to do. And many more... I might use in another post.

BTW the city of Phoenix et all is a nightmare for newcomers to navigate. Google maps does nothing to spare you from that unjust h e double hockey sticks. I mean 3rd avenue and 3rd street are definitely two vastly different concourses. You would think that wouldn't be overlooked by the convention overlords. Thank you to the turban headed man, Mr. Police officer at the barricaded onramp, Recollections SB lady, Laramie at Applebees, hefty construction worker man and anyone else who helped us get around in that city!!!! There must be a Circle K on EVERY corner in Phoenix etc. and what a blessing to five lost little lambs. Oh, and sorry to everyone I cut off and almost ran over. Not to worry we're home safe and sound and back to reality.
I don't know if you know about Michelle Hill but she is the ultimate. That girl ROCKS. Love her and not just because I won the grand door prize in her class. It was actually her online class kit from PolkaDotWhimsy. She comes up with the ideas and puts them together all by herself. Here's the link to the kit I won.

A Boy and His Bike

I know you've seen em, those uber cute tees that are being sold at your finest retailers. I bought my first one at Sears while school shopping for my son back in July. They have a cute animal or other such design with some patterned fabric sewn onto it and the fabric rolls up on the edges. I really wanted to incorporate that idea into this lo about my youngest and his "cycle". He loves this thing...still can't reach the pedals though. I cut the motorcycle out of one of my older son's stained up too small tees and then sewed it on with red thread.
a is from chip chatter
boy is from colorbok
& is from Target $1 spot
his is my own creation
bike is Technique Tuesday calamity jane I think in Real Red. I also used the Small Spots and Toy Box sets from Stampin' up for the background. Have a super day.

Look who I brought home...

I finally found some time to glory in one of my favorite pasttimes, thrift store stalking. I love to find that one beautiful object to add to a collection or complete one. I found little Ollie here at Thrift Town. He pulls double duty as a bank and a natural pick me up. How could you say no to a face like this? (FYI-My husband gasped and asked WHAT is that thing!?)

I was up LATE last night working on this project and one other which I will divulge later on in the week. Just a little notebook to take with me to Creating Keepsakes Convention this Thursday through Sunday! Yippee. There's five of us going and I think it's going to be a rockin' time. "Life, live it, record it, treasure it" The big chip letters are by Li'l Davis and the big flower is a die I used at our local scrap store. I just have to give credit where credit is due on the photo effect. I met Tara at scrapbook.com a WHILE ago and she always does this amazing trick with photoshop where you duplicate a colored layer, desaturate the top one and then cut out the top layer over the eye so the color pops up from underneath. It makes the eye so dramatic. Thanks Tara for the instructions all those ages ago. Check out her blog, her work is amazing.

Girl's Night Out!!! Yahooooeeee!

So we haven't had a girl's night out in a while and I was so excited. We all hopped into Amber's minivan, yes a bunch of moms in a minivan out for a night on the town. Amber suggested Orchid Thai. I had never had Thai food before and was a little leery at first. It was pretty "scrumptious" (eh, Nicole, I can use big words too). I wasn't too big on the beef strip salad though, too much cilantro for me. The coconut milk soup was REALLY good. Yummy. After dinner we went bowling. We're horrible, all except Tiffany who swamped us all, her score was more than double all of ours! Sheesh. I was just glad we actually got a lane with how busy it was there. Then on too....why yes, we kept going...on to dessert at the 66 diner. Yummy. Our new friend, Lindsey, from Chicago tried her first bite of green chile...and liked it. So here are some pics. I tried to get some funny pics of everyone eating cuz you know...I just wanna be like my hubby. That hot fudge cake was amazingly good.
And yesterday morning we woke up to wonderful fog. It was so awesome. I had to run outside and take some pictures. The first thing I noticed were all the spider webs so I got some cool shots... and one of our kitty TomCat cuz it's cool.

Ordinal Positionawhatamagigy!

Today, when Jakob came home from school he said, "Mom, I want to ask you a question." Okay, shoot, I said. "What's the ordinal position of Sunday?" he proclaimed. In my head I'm thinking what did my six year old just say, did I hear him correctly? But on the outside I say "why don't you just tell me Mr. Smarty Pants." He giggles and says, "Awww, Mom it's the first day of the week." My friends, I bow my head in humility, my first grader is officially smarter than his mom. Have a great day!
Just a lo I did when Jakob lost his first two teeth.

Did you say goiter?

Just thought I'd share that at my last follow up, after 5 weeks on PTU I was still hyperthyroid...my endocrinologist upped me to four pills a day to see if that would change things. We'll see, I did my blood draw today, see him next week. BUT here's the best part...my DEAR husband likes to look at me "lovingly" and say well they may not be working, but at least you're not getting a goiter yet! Or we'll be laying in bed and he'll say, "Let me see your neck, uh-oh, I thought I might have seen a bulge, but nope, no goiter." Ughh, that man is such a tease.

Love him so much though. Here's a pic of the Jokester.

It's been too long...

Just a little gatefold card I made: to be creative, to relax, to do something I love. I used my Wild about You and Purely Pomegranate for the giraffe. I inked up the sentiment from Rubber Soul in Tempting Turquoise. The paper is Scenic Rt. I used my "grass" corner punch with out the corner guide on it to do the bottom under the giraffe, you can't even tell, sheesh. I thought, "What a cool idea, and then when I added the old olive ink all was lost. I inked the edges in some Cool Caribbean and Old Olive. I added some River Rock at the Giraffes's base. The birdie from RS is stamped in So Saffron and filled in with River Rock. Add a flower and found rhinestone and whalah. A creation to be proud of.

What's for dinnner you say??? Well, I think meat loaf, I think I must make it about once a year. There's a little hankerin' for it though. Have a great day.

Even Shorter Hair

My son, Jakob, took this pic of me. I'm wearing one of my daughter's barrettes and she kept saying, "Mommy, that's mine, you not supposed to wear it." I though this pic was cool because you can see the sky and my son reflected in my eyes. I duplicated the pic, desaturated the top layer and then "cut" out the top layer around my eyes. Supersize to see the effect, but excuse the blemishes I'm on a hormone treatment for my hyperthyroid. We're trying to have another little one.
Thanks for looking. Have a great day.
