My Carnival Watch

As promised here's a pic of my carnival watch with the face attached. I LOVE the way this watch looks and the way it makes me feel so happy when I wear it. Looks almost good enough to eat! Enjoy---the snow...well, that's what we have today! SNOW on APRIL 30th 2010! UGH!

What Time Is It?

It's not hammer time...this week. I made another beaded watch band and I love how it turned out. If you haven't tried making one of these you really should. They're quite easy and there's a great tutorial vid online by scarlet lime. Have a great day...time flies!

Grandma: last installment

Here's the last page of my Grandma Series: I did one lo each for the kids and their grandma Holly. I love the way they turned out. Have a great weekend!

Head Bands for Her

I also can't stop making headbands for my little girl and... for me. I love wearing them too. This one is a combo of fabric, felt and pearls. I used pinking shears for the edges of the felt to give it a petal like look. What crafty somethings have you had up your sleeve?

Spanish Princess Necklace

I love the medallion and the champagne pearls. Not to mention the rose beads and the teal stone beads. I think it works so wonderfully together. Who says you have to pay a fortune for cute jewelry. Click on the pic for a closer look. Have a great day.

Cloud Earrings

I had seen these silver earrings with bead raindrops and I wanted to make something similar with paper. I love how whimsical they are and as I made them for a friend I can't wait to make myself a pair. If you make some too please link back here and show me. I'm also planning on making a companion necklace.

Earring Frame w/ Burlap

I made this frame in less than 20 minutes and for less than 2 bucks! I got the frame and the burlap at the thriftstore. The spray paint I already had. I'm lovin' not having to did through my drawer to find my earring matches.

Butterfly Sandwiches

I made these sandwiches for James and Aaron the other day. I love designing with food. The boys enjoyed them but I think James is not used to eating greens at his house. Hahaha.

The room redid!

Oh yeah, it was this bad. Travis had a mountain of stuff that had to go out to his shed.
The new brighter color. It took me some time to get used to it, but Trav loved it right away.
Oscilliscope anybody...wood trim?
How 'bout a camping back pack...a really BIG rocket...or a Halloween wig?
Ahhh, that's much better. I still have to repaint the chest of drawers Travis uses but I'm happy for now.

Ear Wear

Made these little jems for a friend. I like the summery feel.

Jonah serves himself

Came out of the bathroom this morning to find this. He got his own plate...the cereal was left on the table thanks to my other children and I guess he was hungry. This morning is starting out a little rough. Here's to hoping it only gets better.

Decorating makes me happy!

I feel the need...the need to clean. So far I've reorganized my bedroom, closet, water closet, furnace closet and oh no, I'm not done yet. I can't wait to tackle some more projects this weekend. Hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy the nice weather.

Jewelry plate

I started out with the brown base. I believe it was a candle holder? and it used to be a frosted glass color until I got it with my trusty Rustoleum.
I then painted the flower plate with Krylon's Bahama Sea. Ahhh, much cuter already.

Break out your E-6000 and go to town gluing these puppies together. You now have a great "stand" to put your jewelry on when you take it off at night. Happy creating.

And a Dresser to Match! Tranformation.

Got this hum dinger of a dresser at the thrift store years ago with the intention of painting it...yeah that happened RIGHT AWAY, not! So I've been using the gosh darn ugly thing as is and I hated it. Whoever painted this thing went to town with the white paint AND the stenciled flowers, ribbons and butterflies (so thick)! It had no knobs when we bought it and I just got some cheapo wood ones so I could OPEN the drawers.
I sanded the drawer fronts down as best as I could (used three WHOLE sheets of 100 grit sand paper just to get to this point) and then added wood putty in the places that needed it. Next step, washing the drawers.
I opened up my still more than half full can of BEHR chocalate swirl and went to town.
Three or FOUR coats later and I get to look at this lovely thing when I wake up. Doesn't it make a world of difference? Really?!?! I also used Krylon's Brushed Platinum spray paint for my cheapo wood knobs...it'll do unless I find something I totally fall in love with and have to have to open my drawers with. Is that clear as mud? Good! Now GO PAINT SOMETHING. It's life changing.
Have a great day.

Bed, sweet bed!

BEFORE

I was busy with the children this past weekend, but my ear did hear something afoot. What should I find outside but my dearest hubby building me a bed. It was a pleasant SUPRISE to say the least. We've been using a very old 70's style bed for some around 10 years. I saw the Farmhouse Bed on Anna's site and I fell in love. Next thing you know...Travis has built the head and foot boards in under 2 hours.
Here are the head/foot boards with top rails
Measure twice, cut once...or twice...or three times. THAT was Sunday (Between General Conferance Sessions)

Monday night after the kiddos were all tucked safely in their beds we painted the bed. I had a hard time choosing a color...at first I thought white and then maybe black...but NOTHING in my house is black so I didn't want to go that route...in the end we painted it a rich, deep brown by BEHR called Chocolate Swirl (primer and paint in one)! Then we crashed/let the paint dry (which it did really quickly btw).

Here's the proud papa last night putting all the pieces together (I did my fair share too!)

I'm lovin' it. I think I'll do a little collection of plates above our bed so we'll "have dishes in our bedroom" as Travis said. I have to put the crosstitch my mom made for us somewhere else because it's too big to go above the bed now.
Now on to the dresser. It is going to match my new bed and make my room complete...maybe...maybe not. Travis will probably need to build me some of THESE!!! as my bedside table...Or maybe I WILL!

Sidenote: the cedar chest at the end of my bed was made by my grandfather and painted by my grandmother. It's a terrible shade of turquoise and it doesn't really "fit" but I just can't bring myself to paint over it. My grandma painted a little Indian girl on it with mine and my brother's names. It was our toy box growing up. I really miss my grandparents.

New Watch Band

I wanted a fun and funky watch band to go with the watch face I picked out...it's orange! I'll take a pic with it on when I get the watch face. Doesn't it just look yummy enough to eat? Happy Easter! Have a great Sabbath Day.

No Beans About It: I've BEAN canning.

On Wednesday I canned around 67 quarts of beans. White Northern, Black and Pinto. I have learned some great lessons...like the USDA guidelines are a joke and the only way I'm ever gonna can beans again is MY way...I'm sure I won't die.
My Way: 1 cup DRY beans (you do not need to precook), fill the rest of the jar with water and inch from the top. Process at 15 lbs (my altitude) pressure for 50-60 minutes NOT 90 minutes like the USDA recommends. Using old baby blankets helps make clean up a cinch. Put a little bit of vinegar in the canner to help with hard water staining of jars. Make sure to borrow your friends canner that does 14 quarts at once. It will make your canning day go a WHOLE lot quicker.
Make sure your lid to jar ratio is equal or you'll be running to the store in the middle of canning for some not so inexpensive lids.
Plan on making a multi bean chili for dinner that night because you WILL have left over beans. Enjoy
