Orange & Gray...who'd a thunk it?

Finished up this lo of my little Jonah boy. Hard to believe he'll be two this Sept. My favorite color just happens to be orange but honestly I've never thought to put it with gray. It's beautiful here. Have a great day.

Weekend Project

Unfortunately here's the only real "before" picture I have. Look over dh's shoulder and there is the wood shelf before. It just looks so much more finished now.

I've had this little curio hutch for some years and I've always wanted to paint it because I thought my glass collection my be better displayed with a neutral, lighter background. I scrubbed it, sanded it lightly and then primed it with gray. This took some time and some more sanding in between because of the finish that was already on it. Eventually I was able to paint it with Krylon Ivory. I love the way it lightens my kitchen...but now I think I need to paint the hutch below it as well! Hahaha. The green glass definitely pops more with the ivory backdrop. Hope y'all are having a great Sunday!

Bounty from the Garden

We're having a good year with our garden...so far. Pests are down and production is up. Thank goodness we've gotten rid of most of the icicle radishes and nary a turnip to be found. I couldn't stomach another round of mashed turnip people, I gave it the old college, I just COULDN'T! I grew those white gourds because I saw the cutest Halloween idea where you make them into ghosts. We've harvested tons of peas, squash and carrots. I'm trying to take out carrots as we go along because last year we ended up with about 14 lbs of carrots all at once and I know there will be more this year. The corn is looking pretty good too. The tomatoes which volunteered from see are doing okay and in another week I'll probably pick some...we also had volunteer bell peppers. Travis saved some seeds from dinner one night last year and they blew all over the garden during planting. The tomatoes from seed are now bigger than the two plants I bought from the store in June!!! Finding that snow peas are bitter compared to my SUPER SWEET SNAP PEAS, but they grow much more abundantly than my snaps. All things considered we're enjoying it all. Spinach and lettuce to! All the chard was eaten by the darn bunnies while we were away on vacation and it didn't regenerate like the lettuce and spinach. The best part about this years garden is that Travis built an irrigation drip system out of PVC pipe and watering is a cynch!
At the end of third grade in May Jakob was given a cabbage to grow and be entered into Bonnie's $1,000 college scholarship program. There's no garauntees but we thought why not grow the thing. It spent a couple of wilty weeks indoors before it warmed up enough to plant it in the garden. Once it was in, boy did it grow, and grow and grow. I think we'll be enterin' this here lovely in the state fair, now I just have to find room in my fridge until then.
Here's Jakob with the royal cabbage. We weighed it! It weighs close to 15 lbs!

Even MORE Hair Bobbies!

Aren't these just so darling?
These are so fun and addicting to make. I hope y'all are having as much fun looking at them as I'm having making them. It's hard to tell but the one with feather is actually an abalone button.
Poppin Pink
Dreamsicle of my dreams
Oooo how I love black and white.
Making the flowers is the best part as some of the different materials I use are more difficult to work with than others. Hope you have a great day and keep creating!

Aaron's First Day of K

He was SO ready to go!!!! I can't believe he was so grown up about it. I do miss having his smiling face around though...so does Jonah.
Got his lunch and he's ready to go
Here's Aaron and his teacher...she's a tiny little thing.
Sitting at his table with the other boys. Saying goodby to his baby brother.
I picked him up at the bus stop with the other two on his first day and he shouted out, "That was awesome!". I'm glad he's enjoying himself.

A barrage of bobbies

Had a lot of FUN last night putting these pretties together. What d'ya think? Any other color combos you can think of? Oh, I just thought of white and black. Having fun on my new endeavor. The cost would be $5 a set (plus shipping if I have to mail it). Have a great day!

Li'l Buck's Hair Bobbies

Okay HAIRS something new for me. Today was a friend's birthday and I wanted to give her something I knew she would use and that was cute to boot. Purple is definitely HER color so I went with it. I folded a ribbon rose and attached it over a tiny felt circle. I removed the shank from a green button for the middle bobby. Finally, I made a frayed fabric rosette out of left over material. I hand stamped the holding card and whalah! I hope to sell these at the store for $5 a set. Have a great afternoon.

Under the Sea

This band reminds me of a seascape. I love the ribbons on this one along with the rolled and tattered jean. Look at that little sea urchin jean ball on the right. Super cute, right?!?!?! This hair band could go with anything from jeans and a T to your Sunday best. Message me at mistrav@yahoo.com if you're interested! Have a super day!

Coral Bunny Swirl

This band came out of nowhere. I do love this color combo but hadn't thought to make a band in it till a few choice buttons caught my eye. Look at that darling little bunny. My friend Michelle would laugh because when I purchased Stampin' Up's Cameo Coral and opened it I almost gagged. I did not like the color but over the years I come back to it again and again...especially with BRIGHT RED! It's lovely. Coral Bunny Swirl band $10.00 plus shipping.

Navy Green Jeans

Making hair bands for a show. I'm selling them for $10.00 a piece (plus shipping if they need to be mailed). Each new band I create is so fun for me. I always think I want to try to make something different, like other bands I've seen out there and they always end up in the same style. I guess it's just me. The fun part is that no two are ever the same...I use things I have on hand. If you're interested in purchasing a one of a kind hair band made by Li'l Buck's e-mail me at mistrav@yahoo.com. I'd be happy to work with you on any color scheme. Have a great day!

Too Much Squash!

We have two yellow squash plants in our garden and you'd think there was 20. I love squash but sheesh. Found this really yummy recipe and tweaked it a bit so I thought I'd share.
Squash Patties
3 10-12 inch yellow squash, shredded
6 green onions, chopped
1/2 TBSP salt
1 c. wheat flour
1/2 c. real potato flakes
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese or pepper jack if you'd like to spice things up
ground black pepper to taste
You can also add green chile in here

Place squash in colander, sprinkle with salt and let drain for about 30 minutes, you can also press with a spoon
In a large bowl, mix the squash, onion, flour, potato flakes, egg, salt and cheese. Season with pepper.
Spray your griddle with Pam and drop 1/4 c. fulls then flatten out. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Yield 24 patties...which you can freeze.

Enjoy with sour cream or nothing at all. YUM!

Kiddos

Jonah
I have four of the loveliest children on Earth. I have to tell myself this daily or otherwise I just might kill one of them. They are totally awesome, but they also drive me totally insane...bickering...teasing...talking back. What's a mom to do? Take them bowling, of course. Have a great weekend!
