Election Observations

Just a few observations after barely keeping my eyes open last night to find out the outcome of the election. I first have to say that I wasn't really "for" any candidate. I kept saying I would vote for CAKE and Jenn helped me out with ICE CREAM for a running mate.

1. I was suprised at John McCain's concession speech. Whoever wrote it deserves an award! I was crying like a baby and not because he's not the new Pres. It was heartfelt and well delivered.

2.I have never been inspired by what he's said before, but last night he took the high road.

3. All the people teary eyed in the audience. The feeling... overwhelming.

4. While watching Obama's speech I kept waiting for the ah hah moment (like my Oprah referance) but he was very serious and somber.

5. He gave me the feeling that America pretty much sucks right now (I don't wholeheartedly agree) and our trials are all but unconquerable. And then came...yes we can.

6. His "Yes we can" chant made me feel like I was back at the Baptist church I used to attend in Grants. I almost found myself saying "Amen, brother."
7. Oh and I'm sorry but Michelle Obama's dress designer...yikes! She looked kind of like a black widow spider from where I sat. She's beautiful, but that dress did nothing for her (not really election related I guess).

8. I loved the part about just being Americans because, ultimately that's how I feel. We should be able to love one another no matter what differences we have. That's how our Saviour wants us to be.

All in all I'm glad it ended well and we're not waiting months to find out who the next President is. I'm tired of the political adds and the backbiting. I'm sick of being asked who I will vote for and trying to be convinced it should be one person or the other. It's time to come together...right now...over me. Just kidding. I guess what I'm trying to say is that everything's gonna be all right. Obama will be my President and yours. He will have my prayers, and I pray that the "change" that comes our way will be good for America and her people.
Have a great day.

I just wanted to say I completely agree with everything you said. I wasn't "for" either one either. I agreed and disagreed with certain points that both of them had. I was in bed by 8 last night, so I haven't heard any of the speeches yet, but I'm going to go try to catch up on them now! Have a great day!

I am so giggling over your description of the new First Ladys dress. Yeah. Yikes.

I was really hoping for SpongeBob to win.

I'm not sad that Obama won, but I wasn't dying for him to win either. I too was another one that wasn't "for" anyone. Although I would take cake and ice cream in a heart beat.

I missed McCains speech since I was out grocery shopping, but I have to say that I was impressed with Obama's speech, although I started to giggle when the chanting began.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but like I posted on my blog, this is God's country and I have faith that our leaders will be inspired and have what they need to keep our rights and freedoms protected.

So to you Mr. President. This little Utah girl is praying for you.

Wow Misty! Now I know why I have you in my reader :-)

We think alike. I thought McCain's speech was really good. Whoever wrote that speech should be given some kind of award. I even liked how he controlled the crowd with just raising his hands.

I didn't think Obama's speech was all that good. I even asked my husband what the deal was with Mrs. Obama's dress was and if she was pregnant or something.

Yep! Glad it is over and hope it stays that way for the next 4 yrs.

I didn't grow up a Christian, so can't feel your pain there :-)

Well said. I agree with you. I wasn't really for either candidate, but I'm really not for socialism. But I liked both speeches too. I really appreciated how McCain didn't let the crowd boo the new President-elect. I think that is admirable. I usually have liked what Obama has said until after I start to think about it awhile and then I have felt unsettled. His acceptance speech was really good. One thing I liked that Obama said was that it was time to let go of the arguing and partisanship and that he hoped to gain the trust (?) of those who did not vote for him. This election has been so divisive.

And James and I were trying to figure out if Michelle's dress was really that bad or if there was a strange shadow. Maybe not the best time to try out a new style. That or she needs a new style consultant.
